An October Celebration

October 11, 1916

The first quarterly meeting of the Archbold Library Association was held in the Library Room. Oct. 11th meeting was called to order by the temporary President to which 12 members answered to roll call.

Thus began library services in Archbold. To commemorate this organizational beginning, we will be holding special events at the library throughout the month of October. Please plan on celebrating with us by participating in any or all of the events.

Oct. 3-8: Guess the number of candy corns in the glass pumpkin to win the pumpkin (and the candy). Winner announced Monday, October 10.

October 11 - "Evening of Books and Poetry" - From 7:00-8:30 in the community room, members of the Women's and Men's Book Clubs of Archbold will be sponsoring an Open House. As part of the evening, you are invited to share an evening of books and poetry with your friends and neighbors. Come and read from your favorite book or poem and share why you love it; or simply relax and listen to others read and share. You can also enjoy some home-baked goodies, browse library memorabilia and look for that ancestor of yours in the Borrowers Registers from 1917-1952. Those who would like to participate in sharing a favorite book or poem are asked to complete a registration form to help in planning for the evening. Registration forms are also available at the library.

Oct. 17-22 - Guess the total number of books in the library at the end of 2015. First place winner will receive a 100th Anniversary Library Bag and the second place winner will receive a 100th Anniversary Mug. Winners will be announced on Monday, October 24.

Oct. 24-29 - Share a memorable experience you have had related to libraries. It doesn't have to be from our library. We won't ask for your name, but we will post the responses for others to read.

In addition, throughout the month of October we will be giving away pens, notepads, magnetic clips, and color-changing straws for the children. We hope you will join us often throughout October as we celebrate 100 years of library service in Archbold.
