Gifts/Donations

The Archbold Community Library welcomes and strives to honor the requests of individuals wanting to give donations to the library that are consistent with the library's Collection Development Policy. The following shall guide the acceptance of gifts to the library:

Materials in General

Gifts of miscellaneous books or other materials will be accepted with the understanding that they become property of the library and are added to the collection only if they are needed and meet the criteria of the collection development policy.  Items not added to the collection will be sold at the annual book sale, given to other libraries or disposed of at the discretion of the library.

Purchasing Items On Our Wish-Lists

Regrettably, the library is not able to purchase absolutely everything we would like to add to our collection. If you would like to contribute to our collection by sending us specific titles we have on our wish list, please visit our Amazon wish lists. Amazon makes it easy to purchase a book and have it sent directly to us. Amazon doesn't share your information with us, so if you would like to be notified when the book/s you purchased from our wish lists are available for checkout, please let us know.

Memorials/Honor Gifts

A book can provide a lasting tribute to the memory of a loved one or provide a unique way to honor special events such as birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, or other special occasions.  Your tax deductible gift to the library will not only be a lasting memorial, but will also bring enjoyment and knowledge to the community.

Each gift book will have a special bookplate which gives the name of the person to whom the book is dedicated and the name of the donor.  The library will also send a letter to the person being honored or the surviving family.

Donors may suggest a specific title or have the librarian choose a title in a designated subject area.  The minimum suggested donation for a memorial book is $25.00. Donors may also give a larger sum of money for the purchase of multiple titles and indicate the desired subject area for the donation.

Donations may be made by downloading and printing our Memorial/Honor Gift Form.

Withdrawal of Gifts

Recognizing that library materials do not last indefinitely or at some point in time may no longer be useful to the library, the library reserves the right to withdraw gift items under the same criteria that applies to all library materials.  The library does not accept responsibility for notifying donors of withdrawals or replacement of gift items.

Other Monetary Gifts

Gifts of substantial cash offerings, securities, real property and other bequests will be handled by the Director, who, with the Board of Trustees, will work out terms of acceptance that are compatible with library policies, the donor’s intent, and applicable laws.
