Video Surveillance Policy

The Library uses digital video cameras to protect its patrons, staff, and property, as well as to identify those violating Library policy.

Cameras will not be installed in locations where staff and patrons have a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as restrooms, or areas of the Library where patrons are not permitted.

Library administration may occasionally monitor the cameras’ live feed, though the Library has no obligation to do so constantly.

The Library archives security camera footage for at least fourteen (14) days; after this period, the footage may be overwritten.

Video surveillance is for use by Library administration and will only be provided to law enforcement if the Library initiates a police report for a crime committed on Library property or if law enforcement officials provide the Library with a warrant or subpoena for video surveillance from a specific time period or covering a specific incident. All requests for footage will be referred to the Library Director.

Video records shall not be used or disclosed other than as specifically authorized by this policy.

A breach of this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
